This Sicilian red from high elevation in Mt. Etna is red with ruby hues. Floral on the nose with aromas of fresh fruit. An elegant, harmonic wine, with pleasant tannins and good acid persistence.
The grape growers and wine makers do so in a natural, organic way, as has been done on Etna for hundreds of years, without synthetic chemicals, while respecting people, and the landscape and nature.
Made of 80% Nerello Mascalese and 20% Nerello Cappuccio that are grown on the northern slopes of Mt. Etna (Castiglione di Sicilia), at 650m. The soil is sandy, volcanic, and very rich in minerals.
Grapes are hand harvested mid-October, then brought to the winery in shallow crates, where the whole clusters are soft-crushed. Maceration for about a week in concrete vats, then aged for 9 months. Refined in bottle for at least 2 months.
